Operating Systems

Its a quite popular debate as to whether Mac or PC is superior. Really they both have their own benefits that appeal to certain audiences based on what tasks you want to complete.

The first major point is computer security. Macs have a built in security system and don’t have to install some type of anti-virus software. They tend to have minimal vulnerabilities in their systems and therefore are less prone to attacks. The windows operating system doesn’t come with this feature and therefore requires some type of anti-virus to be installed in order to be protected from these risks. Because of this there also tends to be more vulnerabilities in the machine itself. When working with an anti-virus software they also have to be updated constantly to get the latest signatures which are what is used to identify a specific type of virus.

The two operating systems obviously have different designs that are meant to achieve different purposes. Macs are designed with a graphically focused interface which makes them great for photo editing and other multimedia related tasks. Macs also have a much simpler interface which is why they are commonly used in schools. Windows on the other hand is often used in the business setting because they are very good at completing office related tasks. Applications like excel and word are great for this.

The last main point between the two is the architecture of the systems themselves. This relates to errors in the system and troubleshooting. Because of the way macs are designed, issues are usually resolved quite easily. The system will detect the issue and most of the time will immediately repair it. Windows are bit more complex and often require some type of effort from the user to fix the problem.
